Introduction / History

The Evrie Uvbie are a subgroup of the Urhobo peoples of southern Nigeria, rooted in the Niger Delta. Their history is shaped by migration, kinship alliances, and adaptation to riverine and forest environments. Over generations, they developed strong clan identity, communal leadership, and rich oral traditions. (Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urhobo_people)

What Are Their Lives Like?

Most Evrie Uvbie families depend on farming, fishing, and small-scale trading. Cassava, yams, plantains, and palm products support daily life. Extended families live in close community, valuing respect for elders and cooperation. Festivals include harvest celebrations, music, dance, and storytelling. Meals often feature pounded yam, soups, fish, and palm oil-based dishes.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Traditional beliefs emphasize a supreme creator, ancestral spirits, and local deities who influence health, fertility, and prosperity. There are few evangelicals, but many identify as Christian. Traditional practices and spiritual fear often remain deeply rooted.

What Are Their Needs?

Access to biblical teaching, discipleship, and local-language Scripture is limited. Many lack healthcare, clean water, stable education, and economic opportunity, which deepens vulnerability and spiritual anxiety. The Evrie Uvbie need spiritual renewal and commitment to biblical faith.
